Guidance

Dear MES Family,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Ms. Barnes, and I have been Monroeville Elementary School Counselor for six years. After being at the secondary level for over 14 years, I am truly enjoying the elementary experience.  I love the school, and I love the community.   I feel very lucky to be part of it!

My passion for school counseling began during my time as a middle and high school teacher.  Students enjoyed talking with me and told me I should become a counselor or a principal. As a result of this, I received my Masters in school counseling from UWA. What I love most about the elementary level is the genuine curiosity students have in their learning and the world around them, as well as the opportunity for early intervention support that can have a lifetime positive impact on a child.

As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. I look forward to offering support to the students, staff, families, and community.  I will be meeting with students individually and in small groups, conducting classroom counseling lessons including the Leader in Me program, meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, and consulting with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all MES students.

As we enter into the changing world with COVID 19 lingering over our heads, please know that I am here.  I am here to advocate for all students.  It is understandable some children may experience increased stress or maybe isolation during the COVID 19 outbreak.  Please do not hesitate to contact me.   If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call (251.743.6060) or email ([email protected]) at any time.

I know we all prefer sunny days over cloudy days; however, we are experiencing more cloudy days.  I know the sun will shine again. I am so excited to work with your children and get to know you throughout the school year! J

All the best,

Ms. Barnes
